Whistle-blowing Budapest Rabbi Misuses Information

Budapest Synagogue

The police have interrogated a rabbi in Budapest for revealing private information on a high-level person within the Jewish community last year.

Rabbi Zoltan Radnoti had brought out that the origin of the president of the Budapest synagogue and a senior adviser to the leadership of Mazsihisz, the main Jewish umbrella organization, was not entirely Jewish for having a Christian mother. As a result, the man publicly known as E.O. lost his position.

Controversy has risen on whether this should be dealt within the Jewish community for being an internal Jewish conflict or not, as on Tuesday the Mazsihisz and Hungary’s Chief rabbi pledged their support for Radnoti.

Rabbi Zoltan Radnoti claims he was working under the Jewish law, or halachah, while E.O. complained to the police that Radnoti had abused his position when revealing personal information that subsequently made the E.O. lose his right to practice his religion.
